Former professional footballer Thorsten Legat views German national coach Jürgen Klopp as a source of hope for the sport to achieve a revival. Speaking to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, he expressed the belief that Klopp is ideally suited to the role of national coach for Germany, stating, “I hope Jürgen Klopp gets the time to build a team calmly. He is destined to be the national coach for Germany. I have been waiting for this for a long time.”
Legat asserts that Klopp possesses the knowledge necessary to restore the team to its former glory. However, he currently expresses skepticism regarding the players’ performance level, suggesting that many players are merely “average.”
He draws a stark contrast between the two coaches, arguing that “Jürgen Klopp has a completely different aura and authority than Julian Nagelsmann. When Klopp is in the room, the others automatically keep quiet.”
Furthermore, Legat-who won the German championship as a professional with Werder Bremen-sharply criticized the attitude of the current national players following their performance at the World Cup. He suggested that the national team no longer embodies traditional German virtues, questioning, “Maybe we have all become too soft.”
