Top Wind Manufacturer Warns of Looming European Energy Crisis and Calls for Urgent EU Action

Henrik Andersen, the head of wind power manufacturer Vestas, has issued severe warnings regarding the impact of the Iran conflict on Europe. Speaking to the “Handelsblatt” on Wednesday, he stated that “Europe has become accustomed to its prosperity and underestimates the risks” adding that “the real crisis is yet to come”.

Andersen emphasized that the European Union must take significantly greater measures to secure a sovereign energy supply. He pointed out that the EU is still allowing other regions to control Europe’s energy provision, criticizing the Union for talking extensively but failing to match its rhetoric with proportional action.

The manager also advocated for the establishment of a European Energy Manager tasked with overseeing the expansion of renewable energy sources through monthly meetings. He warned that if current trends continue, the result will merely be a new EU directive, giving all 27 member states three years to figure out how to implement it. After three years, however, the continent will still remain 55 percent dependent on energy imports.
