Former US President Donald Trump warned Iran of “complete annihilation” should an assassination attempt be made against him. On Saturday, Trump stated that “1,000 missiles” had been armed and targeted at Iran, adding that thousands more would follow immediately if the Iranian government proceeded with or attempted to execute the plan to assassinate the sitting US President.
Trump further announced that orders had already been issued, asserting that the US military was “ready, willing, and able to completely destroy and annihilate all territories of Iran” over a period of one year. These statements came in the context of reports claiming that Israeli intelligence had informed Washington about a specific new plan by Iran to assassinate Trump.
Despite the recent escalations, diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran appear to be moving forward. Trump explained that the United States had agreed to Iran’s request to resume new talks. Meanwhile, Egypt and Qatar called on both the US and Iran to restart negotiations. Separately, Ayatollah Ali Chamenei, Iran’s supreme leader who died during the war, was buried after six days of mourning ceremonies.
