Two motorcyclists died in a serious traffic accident that occurred in Köln-Gremberg early Sunday morning on the Östliche Zubringerstraße (L124). According to police reports, a third motorcyclist was also severely injured in the collision. Investigators currently suspect that the incident was the result of an illegal motorcycle race.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that around 12:15 AM, the two riders were traveling at extremely high speeds, moving away from the city while overtaking cars on the L124 by passing on the right. They collided in the main lane between the Am Grauen Stein and Kalk/Poll junctions. The 27-year-old rider of a Honda died immediately at the scene of the accident, while his 26-year-old companion succumbed to his injuries later in a hospital.
The 33-year-old driver of a Kawasaki Ninja, who was involved in the crash, was taken to a clinic with severe injuries. Support services are attending to the families of those affected. The police investigation and the closure of the L124 route continued into the morning hours. A specialized police team from Köln is currently handling the accident scene, ensuring evidence preservation and continuing their inquiries into the exact sequence of events.
