Johannes Winkel, the chairman of the Young Union, now believes that a longer working life is widely accepted. Speaking to the news portal Politico, Winkel noted that this has become “almost common sense”. He pointed out that just a year ago, extending working lives “was a big taboo”. However, the discussion has gained momentum, with Winkel stating that the retirement debate “has gotten things moving”. He emphasized that “concrete results” are now expected.
Turning his attention to the federal government, Winkel expressed his expectations for the autumn. He stated, “I hope that the Chancellor sees this this autumn, just as we do”. He cautioned that the significant disagreement present last year must not recur. Winkel justified the urgency for action by citing demographic changes, asserting, “This is a reality we must adapt to and make decisions about”.
