US Ebola Patient Cleared for Discharge Following Successful Recovery in Berlin Hospital

The US citizen who had contracted the Ebolavirus while in Congo has been discharged from medical care at Charité in Berlin following successful treatment. On Saturday, Charité announced that the patient was in good health after the isolation order was lifted. The infection, identified as Bundibugyo Ebola virus, was diagnosed on May 20, leading to his admission to a special isolation ward at the hospital.

According to the institution, the symptoms of the Ebola infection, which were severe at the start of treatment, significantly subsided within the first week due to a combination of antiviral therapy and other medical measures. By May 30, control tests showed no signs of the virus. The local health authority lifted the isolation order after the patient was asymptomatic for more than 72 hours and repeatedly tested negative on PCR tests.

Five family members, who were considered high-risk contacts, were also kept in quarantine at Charité. Throughout the entire observation period, none of them developed symptoms, and laboratory examinations detected no signs of infection. The quarantine order for the family was ultimately lifted after 21 days.
