Despite the stipulations of the ongoing ceasefire, the United States and Iran engaged in mutual shelling again late Tuesday night.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that more than 80 targets in Iran had been struck. These actions were stated to be an immediate response to Iranian attacks on merchant vessels within the Strait of Hormuz. US forces allegedly hit Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar stations, anti-ship missile capabilities, and over 60 small vessels belonging to the Islamic Revolution Guard inside and near the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Tehran labeled the strikes an “obvious violation” of the Islamabad Memorandum, which was signed last month with the goal of ending the conflict. Iran then retaliated by hitting 85 US military bases located in Bahrain and Kuwait. This retaliation follows an earlier announcement by the Iranian military that it would launch a “devastating reaction” to US attacks. As a result of the exchange, rocket alarm sirens were sounded in both Bahrain and Kuwait.
