According to U.S. President Donald Trump, the United States forcibly stopped and subsequently seized an Iranian cargo ship on Sunday. Trump stated on his platform “Truth Social” that the vessel, named the “Touska” attempted to breach the U.S. sea blockade. The guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance intercepted the “Touska” in the Gulf of Oman and clearly ordered it to halt. According to Trump, when the Iranian crew disregarded the warning, the U.S. Navy vessel detonated a hole in the engine room. The ship is now reportedly “in the custody of the U.S. Marine Corps”. Furthermore, the “Touska” is already subject to U.S. Treasury sanctions due to “previous illegal activities” and the cargo is currently being inspected. The “Touska” is a container ship measuring 295 meters in length and 32 meters in width, and publicly available data shows it was last cleared in Malaysia a week prior.
