United States forces attacked missile positions in southern Iran on Monday. The US Central Command stated that these strikes were carried out in “self-defense”. The military action, according to the US Central Command, was intended to protect forces from threats posed by Iranian armed groups. Targets reportedly included missile launch ramps and Iranian vessels suspected of attempting to deploy mines. The US Central Command reaffirmed its commitment to defending US forces but noted that it would maintain “restraint” during the ongoing ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that several people were killed in the vicinity of Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz following the US attack. Despite these events, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserted that an agreement with Iran remains possible. He referenced ongoing discussions held in Qatar, mentioning that there are numerous debates regarding the precise wording of the first draft for a potential deal. Therefore, Rubio stated that it would still “take a few days”.
