One day after announcing his ongoing reform plan, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) is reportedly expecting a more detailed clarification from Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU).
Dirk Wiese, a parliamentary secretary, told the “Rheinische Post” that he was surprised by Merz’s recent remarks, quipping, “Yesterday’s statement was more like Nagelsmann than Klopp.”
Wiese added that attention should instead be placed on constituency feedback. He noted that in the Sauerland region, discussions are intensely focused on securing jobs, pensions, and care services. Both Merz and Wiese hold constituencies there.
The context of the statements comes from Merz’s recent appearance where he promoted his reform agenda and made it clear that he intends to remain in office, both as the chairman of the CDU and, specifically, as Federal Chancellor.
