Germany’s Left Party (Die Linke) has reached a record high in membership numbers since its founding in 2007. As of today, the party reports an unprecedented total of 117,868 members, according to party co-chair Ines Schwerdtner, who disclosed the figure in an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” published Saturday.
While the rate of new member acquisition has slowed from the surge experienced around the federal election, Schwerdtner confirmed that membership continues to increase positively.
With upcoming local and state elections on the horizon, the party’s focus is now on integrating the new members into local political work and establishing a stronger presence in areas where they were previously less represented. Schwerdtner stated that the sustained support for the party’s political positions is also reflected in consistent polling results.
