Bayer Leverkusen advanced to the next round of the DFB-Pokal with a decisive 4-0 victory over SG Sonnenhof Großaspach in the first round match. Patrik Schick opened the scoring for Leverkusen in the 32nd minute with a headed goal.
Arthur extended the lead in the 74th minute, followed by a goal from Christian Kofane in the 84th minute. Alex Grimaldo completed the scoring in the 87th minute with a shot into the right corner of the net.
The match was punctuated by several stoppages and saw two red cards issued to players from SG Sonnenhof Großaspach – Volkan Celiktas in the 66th minute and Mert Tasdelen in the 82nd – leaving the hosts to play with a numerical disadvantage for a significant portion of the game.
