Southern and Southeastern Germany are bracing for potentially severe thunderstorms, according to the national meteorological service. Forecasts indicate that parts of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are most likely to be affected.
Current warnings, valid until midnight on Sunday, highlight the potential for localized flooding of basements and roads, damage from lightning strikes and impacts to property, vehicles and agricultural lands due to hailstones. While an extension of the warnings is considered unlikely, conditions remain unstable in the region.
Meteorologists anticipate localized, heavy thunderstorms will persist into the night, moving very slowly. These storms could deliver rainfall totals of 20 to 30 liters per square meter in short periods, with peak accumulations potentially exceeding 40 liters per square meter. Hail up to 2 centimeters in diameter and isolated gusts of wind reaching 70 kilometers per hour are also possible.
Throughout Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday, these storm systems are expected to gradually dissipate towards Southeastern Bavaria, with the overall threat of severe weather diminishing. Residents in affected areas are advised to monitor local conditions and take necessary precautions.
