Healthcare & Nursing Apprentices Earn Highest Pay in Germany

Apprenticeship earnings in Germany vary considerably depending on the chosen profession, according to data released Tuesday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Trainees in healthcare and nursing professions earned above average in 2024, reporting a gross monthly income of €1,310.

Those pursuing vocational training in maritime occupations, such as shipbuilding, also received relatively high compensation, averaging €1,236 gross per month. Apprentices within skilled trades earned an average of €1,008 gross monthly. Conversely, trainees in artistic professions, including fields like music, photography and graphic design, reported the lowest earnings, with a gross monthly income of approximately €914 on average.

Earnings are also closely linked to company size. Businesses employing fewer than ten individuals paid their apprentices an average gross monthly salary of €929 in 2024. Apprentices in companies with 50 to 99 employees earned €1,083 gross per month. Significantly, those in larger companies – with 1,000 or more employees – received an average gross monthly income of €1,494.

Across all years of apprenticeship in April 2024, trainees in Germany earned an average of €1,238 gross per month. Notably, female apprentices reported a slightly higher average gross monthly income (€1,302) compared to their male counterparts (€1,187), according to the Federal Statistical Office.
