AfD Remains Strongest Force in Latest Germany Poll, Leading Union/SPD Rivals

According to the latest Sunday poll from the Allensbach research institute, the AfD remains the party with the highest approval rating in Germany. The survey found that the AfD would secure 27 percent of second votes in an election held this coming Sunday. While this figure is one percentage point lower than the previous month (September), it is two percentage points higher than the results recorded in January of this year.

The Union parties hold the second strongest position, maintaining a steady 23 percent approval rate compared to September, although this represents a four percentage point loss compared to the January results. The Social Democrats (SPD) have increased to 14 percent (up from 13 percent in September); they had achieved 15 percent in January. The Greens remain stable at 14 percent, thereby consolidating their standing since the low recorded at the beginning of the year (11.5 percent).

The Left party holds 11 percent approval, which is one percentage point higher than both September and January. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) saw a decline in October, dropping from five to four percent approval; they had started the year of 2026 at approximately 3.5 percent. Finally, other parties collectively account for 7 percent of the votes, which is unchanged from the previous period but represents a two percentage point increase compared to the start of the year.

This current poll was carried out between October 2 and October 16, 2026, surveying 1,048 individuals.
