Germany’s employment figures for July 2025 demonstrate a period of sustained stability, according to preliminary calculations released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The number of people in employment stood at approximately 45.8 million, remaining virtually unchanged from the previous month with a slight increase of 4,000 individuals when adjusted for seasonal effects. This follows decreases of 17,000 and 19,000 in May and June respectively.
Unadjusted figures indicate a decrease of 44,000 employed persons (-0.1 percent) between June and July. This mirrors a similar decline observed in the average for July between 2022 and 2024 (-49,000; -0.1 percent).
Year-on-year comparisons reveal that employment in July 2025 remained consistent with the previous year, showing a minimal increase of 1,000 people (0.0 percent). This marks the third consecutive month where employment levels have remained stable compared to the same period in 2024.
Alongside stable employment, the number of registered unemployed individuals totaled 1.74 million in July 2025. This represents an increase of 149,000 or 9.4 percent compared to July 2024, pushing the unemployment rate to 3.9 percent – an increase of 0.3 percentage points (July 2024: 3.6 percent).
Adjusting for seasonal and irregular influences, the number of unemployed individuals edged slightly higher to 1.64 million (+1,000; +0.1 percent). The adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 3.7 percent compared to the previous month, according to Destatis.
