VW IDPolo & IDCross: Electric Future for Small Cars

According to reports, the manufacturer intends to adopt more traditional model names for its forthcoming electric compact car and SUV

The next generation electric compact, currently under development, will be known as the IDPolo, while its SUV counterpart will be branded the IDCross This signifies a return to familiar naming strategies for Europe’s largest automaker, effectively phasing out the ID3 to ID7 numbering system over the coming years

The updated ID3, slated for release in 2026, will represent the final iteration to bear the numerical name before being superseded by the IDGolf in subsequent years Prior to this, the ID4 will undergo a revision and be rebranded as the IDTiguan starting next year

Volkswagen’s brand CEO, Thomas Schäfer, is scheduled to unveil the IDGolf and IDCross, alongside related models from sister brands Skoda – the Epiq – and Cupra – the Raval – this Sunday, immediately prior to the opening of the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich This announcement signals a strategic shift in Volkswagen’s branding approach as it expands its electric vehicle portfolio
