German districts are experiencing a noticeable easing of pressure due to a decrease in migration inflows, according to Achim Brötel, president of the German Association of District Administrators (Deutscher Landkreistag).
Brötel, speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland network, noted that the “migration shift” appears to be having an impact. He expressed gratitude to the federal government for the reduced influx, particularly in relation to the accommodation of migrants. “The decline in arrival numbers is clearly noticeable” he stated.
However, Brötel cautioned that districts are still managing tasks arising from the significant number of people who arrived in recent years. He urged the federal government to provide substantial financial relief, particularly regarding accommodation costs for refugees. He estimated these costs currently amount to approximately 3.4 billion euros annually.
