Sweden Pushes EU Sanctions on Russia’s Shadow Fleet

Sweden’s EU Minister Jessica Rosencrantz has called for a robust European Union response to the recent incidents involving Russian drones in Poland, advocating for the inclusion of measures targeting Russia’s shadow fleet within the proposed 19th EU sanctions package.

Speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspaper group, Rosencrantz emphasized the need to curtail both Russia’s energy revenues and the support networks enabling its shadow fleet operations. “We must agree on a further sanctions package against Russia that affects both its energy revenues and those that enable the shadow fleet” she stated. She asserted that allowing continued support for the Russian war economy was unacceptable.

The discovery of drones within Poland has prompted a serious response, with Rosencrantz describing the violation of Polish airspace as “completely unacceptable”. She characterized Russia as a threat to European security and underscored the importance of translating recent agreements on increased NATO defense spending into concrete action. “Now we must put words into action and make these investments” she added.
