The German Finance Minister and Social Democratic Party (SPD) leader, Lars Klingbeil, has endorsed the call from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for a comprehensive reform of the social welfare state.
Speaking to the “Tagesspiegel” newspaper, Klingbeil stated the importance of garnering broad support for reforms within the country. He emphasized that to ensure Germany remains a robust and equitable nation, adjustments are necessary. These changes, he explained, will be measured by the principles of fairness, economic strength and job security, with a primary focus on increasing employment rates.
The governing coalition is now engaged in consultations with specialists to determine the most effective approaches. Klingbeil indicated that proposals will be presented and integrated with the aim of securing a broad consensus within the political center. He characterized this as both an opportunity and a responsibility for the current coalition government.
