German Hospitality Sales Rise in July, Despite Yearly Decline

German hospitality sector experiences modest rebound in July.

Preliminary figures released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Thursday indicate a slight recovery in the German hospitality sector during July 2025. Calendar- and seasonally adjusted real turnover increased by 0.8 percent and nominal turnover by 1.0 percent compared to June 2025.

However, when compared to the same period last year, July 2024, real turnover decreased by 3.7 percent and nominal turnover by 0.6 percent. The initial assessment of June’s performance has been revised, revealing a smaller-than-previously-reported decline: a real turnover decrease of 0.9 percent (compared to a preliminary figure of -2.5 percent) and a nominal decrease of 2.4 percent (previously -3.9 percent) when measured against May 2025.

Hotels and other lodging establishments reported a real turnover increase of 1.2 percent and a nominal increase of 1.5 percent in July, compared to June. Year-on-year, however, these businesses experienced a real turnover decline of 3.9 percent and a nominal decline of 1.7 percent.

The restaurant and catering segment saw a real turnover increase of 1.0 percent and a nominal increase of 1.1 percent in July, relative to June. Despite this uptick, real turnover in this area was down 4.1 percent and nominal turnover down 0.2 percent when contrasted with July 2024.
