Kenyan Sebastian Sawe Wins 2023 Berlin Marathon

02:16 and setting a new world-leading time for the year.. The event, one of the prestigious World Marathon Majors, drew an immense crowd of spectators lining the streets of Berlin.

Akira Akasaki of Japan secured second place with a time of 02:06:15, followed closely by Chimdessa Debele from Ethiopia, finishing in 02:06:57. Hendrik Pfeiffer was the top-performing German athlete, finishing eighth in a time of 02:09:14, while Johannes Motschmann placed eleventh with a time of 02:10:40.

Over 55,000 runners participated in this year’s marathon, showcasing the event’s global appeal. The Berlin Marathon is recognized worldwide as one of the fastest courses, consistently attracting elite athletes.

The weekend’s festivities resulted in widespread road closures across the city, managed and secured by a significant police presence of over 800 officers.
