Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced she will no longer utilize social media platforms, citing them as unsuitable sources for information. In an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” Merkel explained that she relies on traditional media outlets like newspapers, television broadcasts and online news publications for her understanding of current events.
“My sources of information are not social media” she stated. Merkel confirmed she does not actively engage on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, or Instagram.
Instead, she maintains a personal website, which she continues to update since leaving office. Merkel indicated that citizens have demonstrated a positive reception of the website and find it a useful avenue for engagement. She emphasized its role as a channel for communication and direct contact.
