German Rail Union Voices Concerns Over Leadership Appointments

A decision to retain the current head of DB Infra-GO, Philipp Nagl, has been met with a mixed response from labor representatives. Kristian Loroch, Deputy Chair of the GDL rail union and also Deputy Chair of the Infra-GO supervisory board, expressed relief at the outcome following an announcement from Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder.

However, Loroch also voiced criticism regarding the process, asserting that Minister Schnieder did not consult with the supervisory board prior to making the decision. He highlighted the critical state of Germany’s rail infrastructure, describing Nagl’s continued leadership as a positive development, stating it would be a “serious error” to remove those seen as driving positive change. Recent weeks have seen clear indications of employee preference for Nagl to remain in his position.

Loroch emphasized the importance of labor representation in such decisions, accusing Minister Schnieder of disregarding established protocols. He welcomed the departure of a previous figure involved in the matter, Dirk Rompf and urged the company’s owners to now formally resolve the leadership’s future within the appropriate governance structures.
