A recent survey reveals a significant disparity in economic outlook among voters in eastern Germany, with supporters of the AfD, BSW and Die Linke expressing considerably more pessimism about their personal financial futures compared to those supporting the CDU and the Greens.
The poll, conducted by the research institute Insa Consulere for the magazine “Superillu”, surveyed 1,000 adults aged 18 and older across the six eastern German states, including Berlin, between September 10th and 17th, 2025.
Findings indicate that 57% of AfD voters in eastern Germany believe their personal economic situation will worsen in the future. A similar sentiment is shared by 57% of Die Linke voters and 59% of BSW voters in the same region.
In stark contrast, only 19% of CDU voters and 14% of Green voters in eastern Germany hold a comparable view. A higher degree of optimism prevails within these groups; 63% of CDU voters and 53% of Green voters anticipate their economic situation will remain unchanged, while an additional 17% of CDU voters and 23% of Green voters foresee an improvement in their personal economic prospects.
