Concerns are escalating regarding drone detection and defense capabilities within Germany, prompting calls for swift action from the nation’s governing bodies. Dirk Wiese, Parliamentary Secretary for the Social Democratic Party (SPD), emphasized the urgency of developing effective regulations in collaboration between the federal government and individual states.
Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” Wiese welcomed the renewed focus on drone detection and mitigation strategies, highlighting the need for a coordinated approach to address the evolving security landscape. He underscored the seriousness of the ongoing threat posed by Russia and stressed the importance of bolstering national security measures.
The calls for enhanced capabilities come as Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) moves forward with plans to strengthen drone defense systems across Germany. These plans reportedly include provisions for the potential deployment of the Bundeswehr (Germany’s armed forces) within the country under specific and defined circumstances. A revised Federal Police Law, granting expanded authorities, is also anticipated from the Interior Ministry. The goal is to create a more comprehensive framework for managing and responding to potential drone-related incidents.
