German authorities have apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement with the foreign terrorist organization Hamas in Berlin. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office announced the interim arrests occurred on Wednesday, identifying the suspects as two German nationals and a Lebanese man.
The Prosecutor’s Office alleges the men acted as “overseas operatives” for Hamas and are suspected of procuring firearms and ammunition from Germany to supply the organization. According to the charges, these weapons were intended for potential attacks targeting Israeli or Jewish institutions within Germany.
During the arrests, a substantial quantity of weaponry was seized, including an AK-47 assault rifle, multiple pistols and a significant amount of ammunition. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office is scheduled to petition the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice on October 2nd to request the issuance of arrest warrants for the suspects.
