Germany plans to push offshore wind development dramatically at the North Sea summit scheduled for Sunday and Monday in Hamburg. According to Berlin officials, the aim is to strengthen Europe’s resilience and energy security and, in the long run, secure the competitiveness of the industry on the global stage.
The government will present concrete projects and focus especially on enhancing cross‑border cooperation. Proposed measures include a regional grid‑planning process based on transnational maritime spatial planning and an “Offshore Financing Framework” to simplify capital provision and investment. The summit will also address the current challenges facing the offshore sector, with the goal of improving investment conditions and restoring the planning and investment certainty that the European wind and grid industries need.
The event will see senior government representatives, including several heads of state, from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Norway, as well as delegates from the EU Commission and NATO. In addition, more than 130 corporate representatives are expected to attend.
