Following the severe defeat of the CDU in the Saxony-Anhalt state election, the state party held an emergency meeting on election night. However, concrete results were not immediately announced afterward. CDU top candidate and State Minister-President Sven Schulze merely directed attention to committee meetings scheduled for Monday. He stated that during those meetings, he would “make a procedural proposal” concerning the state party itself.
In comparison to the previous state election in Saxony-Anhalt, the CDU’s percentage share has been cut by more than half. According to the latest projections, the CDU is averaging 17.3 percent. The AfD is forecast as the definite winner with 44.2 percent, followed by the SPD at 9.2 percent, the Greens at 8.9 percent, and the Left Party at 8.6 percent. The BSW is expected to secure a place in the state parliament with 5.2 percent. Conversely, the FDP is projected to fall significantly outside parliament with only 2.5 percent, while other parties are expected to reach 4.2 percent.
