The German Weather Service warns of freezing rain in the northeast. It said on Sunday evening that parts of Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Berlin and Saxony will be affected.
The freezing rain originates from the Erzgebirge region late on Sunday into Monday night and spreads over the northeastern states, including Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern. A substantial ice accumulation can also occur in some areas, potentially damaging infrastructure and vegetation.
The service predicts “impairments to road and rail traffic” adding that motorists and rail users should stay alert.
A small, weather‑significant low pressure system moves northward from the upper Adriatic on Sunday. The clash of this system with the moist air mass produces heavy snow in the north and freezing rain to the east.
