Ukraine’s Energy Grid Faces Critical Threat After Night of Russian Airstrikes

Ukrainian energy expert Oleksandr Kharchenko describes the state of the energy infrastructure after the latest Russian air attacks as “extremely dangerous and critical”. He says this situation is more complicated than anything the country has faced since the invasion began four years ago.

In Kyiv, one of the three key heating power stations has been hit so hard that repairs will take several months. Kharchenko remarks that this is a historically unique event, noting that since World War II no country has seen such massive, targeted attacks on its energy grid.

He adds that modern technology is far more complex than it was 80 years ago, which means that maintaining the power network now requires creative and unconventional solutions. Despite the challenges, the expert remains optimistic: “They won’t be able to make us collapse”.
