U.S. Markets Surge as Dow Surpasses 50,000 for First Time, S&P 500 & Nasdaq Gain Over 2 %, Gold, Oil & Bitcoin Rally Together

U.S. stock markets showed a strong rally on Friday. By the close in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had climbed above 50,000 points for the first time in its history, ending at 50,115.67-an increase of 2.5 percent from the prior day’s close.

The broader S&P 500 finished up 2.0 percent at 6,932 points, while the technology‑heavy Nasdaq 100 closed at 25,076 points, up 2.2 percent.

Investors called it the best trading day in over six months, noting that bargain hunters followed the recent dip in prices. The fact that Bitcoin had rebounded more than 10 percent after its Friday crash also helped calm some market participants.

In Europe, the euro strengthened in the evening: one euro traded at $1.1823, which puts the greenback at €0.8458.

Gold posted strong gains; at night, one troy ounce fetched $4,954-an increase of 3.8 percent-equivalent to €134.73 per gram.

Oil also advanced, with a barrel of North Sea Brent trading at $67.94 around 10 p.m. German time-39 cents, or 0.6 percent, above the previous close.
