The federal narcotics commissioner, Hendrik Streeck of the CDU, warned about the newly emerged designer drug Cychlorphin, which has recently been detected in Germany. In an interview with the “Rheinische Post”, he described synthetic opioids such as Cychlorphin as “extremely potent and life‑threatening”. Even the smallest dosing mistakes can be fatal, and the danger increases when these substances are mixed with other drugs-often without the users’ knowledge.
Streeck urged swift action to counteract the problem. He called for a reliable monitoring and early‑warning system that can quickly spot new developments and alert the public. At the same time, he stressed that naloxone must be widely available and that a permanently and reliably funded support system is essential. Naloxone is an opioid antidote that can save lives. The spread of synthetic opioids is rising in Germany, and these drugs are many times stronger than heroin.
