German Greens Call on Federal Government to Probe Epstein Files for German Links

The Green Party has urged the federal government to launch its own investigations into the case of deceased American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and to determine whether the scandal has affected any individuals in Germany.

Parliamentary manager Irene Mihalic said the government’s stance on the Epstein files shows an ignorance of a potentially larger dimension of the scandal, which she described as both dangerous and at least negligent. “The acts of this network are repellent and must not be allowed to remain unresolved. The entire Epstein complex must be clarified with a comprehensive view” she told the editorial network of Germany. “It must be determined whether politicians, civil‑servants or anyone representing the German state appears in these records”. She added that the situation should not be handled by hoping it will pass unnoticed; instead, publicly available material should be systematically analysed in a proactive manner. Mihalic pointed out that the Epstein case circulates globally, likely influencing states, financial markets and political decision‑makers, and therefore the policy of “explanation rather than sitting on the sidelines” must apply.

In contrast, government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said on Monday that “we observe what surfaces in other countries, and how it has political consequences there”. He stressed that the federal government does not see a reason to conduct a systematic review of the Epstein files and was unaware that the case could be of criminal relevance for Germany.
