CDU/CSU Tops, AfD Stagnates; 27 % of Voters Uncertain, Dissatisfaction Soars

In the latest Forsa poll, the German electorate’s favorable sentiment remains unchanged, with the Union – the coalition of CDU and CSU – holding the strongest position at 26 %. The AfD follows in second place, also at 24 %, unchanged from the week before. The Greens gain a percentage point, rising to 13 %. The SPD stays steady at 14 % while the Left moves up to 11 %. Both the FDP and the BSW hold firm at 3 % each, and the share of parties outside this group fell by one point to 6 %. Non‑voters and undecided voters account for a high 27 %, well above the 17.9 % recorded in the 2025 federal election.

When it comes to perceived political competence, the Union remains ahead. Seventeen‑nine per cent of Germans trust the CDU/CSU to solve the country’s problems. The AfD is perceived as having 10 % competence (down one point); the SPD and the Greens each receive 6 %, with the Greens gaining a point. The Left garners 5 %. More than half – 51 % – indicate that no political party is capable of effectively addressing the current challenges.

Regarding Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), 24 % of respondents currently express satisfaction with his work, a one‑point drop from the previous week. Satisfaction sits only marginally above Merz’s previous low, while 74 % remain dissatisfied. Among CDU/CSU supporters, 61 % continue to be satisfied with Merz’s performance. In contrast, the vast majority of supporters of other parties express dissatisfaction, especially pronounced among AfD supporters (95 %) and Left supporters (92 %).

The party‑preference data were collected between 3 and 9 February 2026 from a sample of 2,503 respondents. For the questions on political competence and satisfaction with Merz’s work, the survey included 1,001 participants.
