According to German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD), the planned NATO mission “Arctic Sentry” is not intended as a Greenland‑focused operation or a response to former President Donald Trump. Rather, the aim is to underscore the seriousness with which Germany, NATO, Europe and North America view the security of the Arctic and the high north. While Greenland is part of the Arctic region, the mission is about demonstrating a broader NATO presence in the entire Arctic. In the initial stage, Germany will deploy four fighter jets as part of the mission.
