In the midst of discussions about safety on trains and at stations, the Police Union (GdP) wants Deutsche Bahn to deploy more police units on board its trains.
In an interview with the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition), GdP chairman for the Federal Police, Andreas Roßkopf, said, “We need more police teams on trains to ensure safety”. The Federal Police currently conduct inspections in trains only rarely. Roßkopf stresses that a renewed prioritisation of specific routes is essential, and resources could be moved, for example, from border‑control duties.
“If we increase our presence in trains and at stations, we will create a new security image” he added. “We need real security promises that are actually carried out” the GdP chief continued.
Roßkopf also backs the call for double‑staffing of ticket checks by train attendants, warning that lack of funding should not prevent additional manpower.
This Friday, Deutsche Bahn AG will host a security summit led by CEO Evelyn Palla, with Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) in attendance.
