Germany Raises Alarm Over Alleged Glyphosate Use by Israeli Forces in Southern Lebanon

The German Foreign Ministry expressed concern following reports that the Israeli army had allegedly used glyphosate in southern Lebanon. A spokesperson said, “We take the reports very seriously” and stressed that any action must comply with humanitarian international law. “Measures that endanger civilians, permanently destroy livelihoods, or involve the use of plant toxins are unacceptable” the official added.

Given the fragile situation in southern Lebanon, the ministry emphasized that preventing further escalation is essential. It urged both sides to observe international law and to protect civilian populations.

In parallel, videos have been circulating on social media showing an aircraft spraying chemicals over Lebanese fields at low altitude. A UN‑Unifil spokesperson told ARD that the peace‑keeping force had been notified by the Israeli army in advance that an air operation would take place. UN personnel were advised to stay outside the area or seek protection.
