Rubio Calls for US‑Europe Unity at Munich Security Conference, Highlighting Past Missteps and Ukraine Challenges

At the Munich Security Conference, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on the United States to deepen its bond with Europe in a manner that reflects Washington’s current priorities. He said that in the past the U.S. had made mistakes-such as the so‑called “climate cult” and the embrace of mass migration-which he described as having threatened the survival of “our culture”. Because these errors were made “together” he argued that correcting them must also be a joint effort. Rubio added that while the U.S. could take action alone if needed, it would prefer to work with European partners. He reminded attendees of the shared history and values between the two sides.

Regarding the Ukraine conflict, Rubio expressed uncertainty about Russia’s genuine interest in a settlement. “The Russians say yes” he said, “but we don’t know whether we can reach acceptable agreements”.
