Laschet Declares Iran’s Mullah Regime Doomed as Mass Protests Surge and U.S. Tensions Heighten

Armin Laschet, the chairman of Germany’s Foreign Affairs Committee, told the television networks RTL and ntv that the days of the Mullahs’ regime in Tehran are numbered. “The days of the regime have been counted. Even if it does not fall tomorrow, that is clear. The people who were brave today will not be brought back” he said.

He then asked what the United States is currently negotiating with Iran. “The core of the Middle‑East problem is the terror regime of the Mullahs. That was also a topic in Munich. There, 250,000 people took to the streets-one of the largest demonstrations in post‑war history on German soil. The question is whether we discuss a transition of power or, as we have for years, only the old nuclear programs” Laschet continued.

Laschet recalled that a few weeks earlier, President Donald Trump had encouraged the protesters and said that help was on the way. “Right now, you can’t really feel that much of it” he added. “This back‑and‑forth makes analysis difficult”.

Finally, Laschet criticized the congratulatory letter from U.N. Secretary‑General António Guterres to the authorities in Tehran on the anniversary of the Iranian Revolution. “I found that utterly unacceptable. He would reply that it is customary to congratulate every state on its national holiday. Yet, when you look at the world, three‑quarters of the U.N. members are dictators. Iran’s case is especially egregious. Over the last few weeks, 40,000 people have been murdered simply for marching in the streets in pursuit of freedom”. Laschet suggested that a more appropriately worded telegram would have shown the U.N.’s stance.
