Former Prince Andrew Arrested in UK on Abuse‑of‑Power Charges

On Thursday several British outlets reported that the police had arrested former Prince Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor. The Thames Valley Police confirmed the arrest, but did not disclose his name. They said that “a man in his sixties from Norfolk” had been taken into custody on suspicion of abuse of office and that searches were being carried out at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk. The suspect is currently in police custody. In line with national guidelines, the officers confirmed that the arrested person’s identity would not be released.

A police spokesperson added: “After a thorough review we have launched an investigation for alleged abuse of office. It is essential that we preserve the integrity and objectivity of our work as we collaborate with partners on this potential offence”. He acknowledged the high public interest in the matter and added that updates would be provided “in due course”.

The arrest comes on the day of Andrew’s 66th birthday and follows a fall from grace linked to his close connections with criminal Jeffrey Epstein. In November 2025, his brother King Charles stripped him of most of his honours, titles, and the prince designation. Recent revelations in the Epstein saga have increased pressure on Andrew, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing or misconduct related to Epstein.
