Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, a number of German citizens are currently stranded in the United Arab Emirates. When the “Bild” newspaper (Monday edition) reported that a military evacuation was being planned, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) clarified that it would not be possible at this time. “We will not be able to do that because the airspace is closed overall” he said. Instead, the German government is focusing on providing information and consular assistance. “All embassies and overseas missions are open. We are working intensively to keep people informed” Wadephul added. The timing of when it will again be possible for affected citizens to leave remains uncertain.
