A sharp spike in gas prices followed an escalation in the Middle East, with the market jumping roughly 25 % on Monday. In the European wholesale market, midday bids pushed the price for April delivery up to €48 per megawatt‑hour (MWh). That level translates to a consumer price of about 10-12 cents per kilowatt‑hour (kWh) when all additional charges and taxes are included. Earlier in the morning, the price was still just over €38 /MWh, corresponding to a consumer rate of roughly 9-11 cents/kWh. Roughly half of the final consumer price is tied directly to the wholesale level; the remainder comes from costs such as grid usage and the CO₂ tax.
