Heidi Reichinnek, who leads the Left’s parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, has urged the federal government to set up legal and safe ways for people fleeing the Iranian regime to seek asylum.
After decades of suffering under a brutal dictatorship, Iranian civilians are now also in grave danger from the massive bombardments carried out by the United States and Israel, Reichinnek told the magazine Der Spiegel. She added that neighboring countries offer no safety either.
“We need secure routes to Europe. We cannot abandon people in Iran and the surrounding nations under these circumstances” the Left politician said. “Those who rightly call for solidarity with the Iranian people must act in proportion to that solidarity”.
