Kurdish Opposition Calls for Ground Troops in Iran, Linking Their Plan to an International No‑Fly Zone to Counter Tehran’s Air Power

A prominent figure of the Iranian‑Kurdish opposition has linked the possible deployment of ground troops in Iran to the creation of an international no‑fly zone. “For the Islamic Republic to be prevented from attacking from the air and exercising its military advantage, such a measure is necessary” Reza Kaabi, secretary‑general of Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan, told “the World”. He added, “The demand is clear. We expect it to be implemented”.

Kaabi said that a ground offensive depends on several factors. “We believe we are approaching those conditions” he explained. In addition to the readiness of the Peshmerga, political cohesion, a prepared civilian population, and international support are decisive. The future developments, he said, hinge on “both President Trump’s policy and the Kurds themselves”.

According to Kaabi, Komala has roughly 1,000 combat‑ready fighters stationed in three camps in northern Iraq. The party is also part of a recently formed coalition of Iranian‑Kurdish opposition parties. They call for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic and the establishment of a “democratic, secular and federated Iran”.
