Omid Nouripour, the green vice‑president of the Bundestag, sees the electoral success of his party colleague Cem Özdemir in Baden‑Württemberg as a model for the entire party.
In an interview with Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Nouripour said, “The election in Baden‑Württemberg is a blueprint for how the Greens can again become broadly majority‑capable across Germany”. He added that the party need not sound the same everywhere, noting that different states, social milieus, and everyday realities call for varied tones and emphases.
Nouripour, who belongs to the party’s Real‑politik wing like Özdemir, went on to praise the latter, calling him a “masterpiece in the making – he stands on the brink of writing history”. He explained that Özdemir demonstrates how green politics can win majorities when it listens to the people, aligns with their lived realities, and claims a central place in society. Nouripour believes that a style built on trust and reliability, while giving senior leaders the necessary breathing room, can inject new dynamism into the whole party.
