Following the arrest of a man accused of carrying out multiple sabotage attacks on power grids, the Green Party is calling for an immediate and thorough investigation into potential networks. According to Konstantin von Notz, a Green party expert on internal affairs, it is crucial to immediately clarify the exact backgrounds of the attacks and attempts, particularly by looking into possible accomplices and associated networks.
Von Notz further urged the federal government to finally make demonstrable improvements to the protection of critical infrastructures. The Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Monitoring Committee emphasized that a significantly better level of protection is urgently needed, stressing that the Federal Minister of the Interior cannot simply delegate this issue to the operators, as the federal government remains responsible.
In addition, von Notz sharply criticized the delayed legal regulations associated with the new Critical Infrastructure Act. He called this a massive failure of security policy, noting that it has still not been defined who falls under the legislation passed months ago or what concrete duties companies must fulfill in the future. He held Federal Minister Dobrindt directly accountable for this deficiency.
