CDU Promises Tax Cuts to Re‑win Voters After Narrow Baden-Württemberg Election Loss.

After a narrow electoral defeat in Baden‑Württemberg, the CDU aims to win back disappointed voters – in particular by delivering on the tax cuts promised in the coalition agreement but not yet implemented.

Steffen Bilger, parliamentary manager of the Union faction in the Bundestag, told the “Tagesspiegel” (Tuesday edition) that “the governing coalition will have to deliver considerably more than before to move our country forward and to convince more voters again”. He added that “overall dissatisfaction with politics is high, and the impatience is great”.

As a concrete example, Bilger recalled the tax‑cut deal the Union and the SPD reached a year ago. “The reduction of taxes for small and medium incomes will come” he said. “The coalition is unified in bringing the relief forward with the next budget, and the federal finance minister will soon submit a proposal for it”.
