Following the Islamist and queer-hostile attack on the Christopher Street Day in Berlin, the FDP has called for a tougher stance against extremists and radical individuals. According to a decision made by the FDP presidium, which was reported by “Focus”, the party now advocates for the closure of mosques where Islamist ideologies are spread or individuals are encouraged toward radicalization.
FDP leader Wolfgang Kubicki stated to the magazine that many people are greatly affected by the terror attack on the CSD in Berlin. However, he emphasized that political responsibility cannot be measured by emotional distress. Despite this firm position on security, his party rejects a “reflexive call for mass surveillance of all citizens.”
Instead, the presidium concluded by establishing ten key points. Among these demands, in addition to shutting down radical mosques, the party calls for the consistent use of electronic ankle monitors for potential threats. Furthermore, the FDP proposes that the Islamic religious instruction be placed under German supervision in the future, ensuring that foreign states or state-affiliated bodies have no influence over the curriculum.
