Only One in Four Iranian Asylum Seekers Granted Protection in GermanyBamf

Only about a quarter of the Iranian asylum seekers are currently granted permission to stay in Germany, according to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” Sunday editions, citing recent figures from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf).

In January and February, the office decided on more than 891 asylum cases involving Iranian nationals. The overall protection rate – the proportion of cases in which asylum is recognized, refugee protection is granted, or deportation is prohibited – stood at 27.6 %. The previous year’s rate was 22.8 % based on 11,626 decisions.

A Bamf spokesperson noted that it is still unclear how developments in Iran and the wider region will affect the office’s decision‑making. The overall situation cannot be reliably forecast, and whether it will spur new movements of people into or out of the region remains uncertain.
